Southampton real estate

southampton real estateThe historic village of Southampton was founded in the 1640s.  Today you can visit sites in Southampton that are listed on the National Historic Registry, including the 1640 Halsey Homestead, New York State's first frame house, and the English General Erskine's headquarters during the American Revolution; the Pelletreau Silversmith Shop; and the Historical Museum.

Southampton's art community began in the 1900s with the founding of the Art School in Shinnecock Hills.  Artists such as Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, Willem de Kooning, Fairfield Porter, Roy Lichtenstein, Larry Rivers and Eric Fischl have all maintained studios at one time or another in the area.

Southampton is 6.3 miles of which 6.36 % is water.  The tree-lined streets, the historical sites, The Parrish Art Museum, the shopping along Job's Lane and Main Street attract people from all over.  It is the largest and most populated of the five East End villages, with a year-round population of 3,965.  It has the finest beaches, the oldest 18-hole course in the nation, outdoor concerts, and the annual Shinnecock pow-wows.
